History of Komen National
Susan G. Komen For the Cure was founded on a promise made between two sisters - Susan Goodman Komen and Nancy Goodman Brinker. Suzy was diagnosed with breast cancer in 1978, a time when little was known about the disease and it was rarely discussed in public. Before she died at the age of 36, Suzy asked her sister to do everything possible to bring an end to breast cancer. Nancy kept her promise by establishing the Susan G. Komen for the Cure in 1982 in Suzy's memory.

Enter Site Here...

Legendary award-winning actor and comedian Robin Williams brings an evening of comedy and his "Weapons of Self-Destruction" Tour to the BJCC Concert Hall for one-night only! The high-energy show has already received overwhelmingly positive reviews, and highlights Williams' trademark free associations and riffs on social and political absurdities.

His original concert scheduled in March of 2009 was postponed due to the need for open heart surgery to replace his aortic valve, repair his mitral valve and correct his irregular heart beat.

We are glad to see he is back on his feet and back on stage.

Widespread Panic is an American rock band from Athens, Georgia. The current lineup includes guitarist/singer John Bell, bassist Dave Schools, drummer Todd Nance, percussionist Domingo "Sunny" Ortiz, keyboardist John "JoJo" Hermann, and guitarist Jimmy Herring. Michael Houser and George McConnell have also played lead guitar for the band.

Since their inception in Athens, GA in 1986, Widespread Panic has risen to elite status among American jam bands. Following in the steps of other southern rock jam bands such as The Allman Brothers, they have influences from the southern rock, blues-rock, progressive rock and hard rock genres. They are frequently compared to other jam band "road warriors" such as the Grateful Dead and Phish. Widely renowned for their live performances, as of 2008, they hold the record number of sold out performances at Red Rocks Amphitheatre in Morrison, CO at 32 and Philips Arena in Atlanta, GA at 17. Dedicated fans are referred to as "Spreadheads" or "Spreadnecks" if from the south.

The Allman Brothers Band is a Southern rock band based in Macon, Georgia, United States. The band was formed in Jacksonville, Florida in 1969 by brothers Duane Allman (slide guitar and lead guitar) and Gregg Allman (vocals, organ). While the band has been called the "principal architects of Southern rock"[1], they also incorporate elements of blues-rock and hard rock, and their live shows have jam band-style improvisation and instrumental songs.

In 1971, George Kimball of the Rolling Stone Magazine hailed them as "the best **** rock and roll band" of "the past five years." The band has been awarded eleven Gold and five Platinum albums between 1971 and 2005. Rolling Stone ranked them 52nd on their list of the 100 Greatest Artists of All Time in 2004. The band continues to record and tour to the present day.

Artist Info

Angie Stone:
Her debut solo album, Black Diamond, was released in 1999 by Arista. She moved to J Records in 2001 for her second record, Mahogany Soul, and the record cracked the Top 40 thanks to the pop/R&B hit "Brotha." In 2004, her third record, Stone Love, became her biggest hit, reaching number 14 on the charts. A greatest hits package, Stone Hits: The Best of Angie Stone, was released in 2005. Stone sang the theme song for the UPN sitcom Girlfriends, and also appeared on a 2002 episode of the show.

Chaka Khan:
Chaka has perfected a style, a sizzling stage presence and intimacy with her adoring fans that keeps them stuck like glue. The New York Times once wrote: "Chaka Khan's singing is extraordinary. She can coo with a girlish sweetness, cut to the bone with a nasal Dinah Washington, turn, whisper a breathy invitation or proclaim high-flying jubilation." In New York Newsday, the words were equally flattering: "Her huge voice refuses to acknowledge any state other than sheer ecstasy."

Joe:
Joe has a new home with Kedar Entertainment/Universal, where he will release two new albums, he says “It's incredible that now I get the opportunity to, I don't know, maybe pay [R. Kelly] back in some sort of side bar kind of thing." He does stress however, that he did not know what was truly going on until after he left Jive six months ago.

Avant:
Hailed as the "new voice of ghetto soul" and acknowledged as the first act signed to NBA great Magic Johnson's Magic Johnson Music, Cleveland native Avant celebrated the MCA Records release of his debut album, My Thoughts, on May 2, 2000. Around the same time, the 22-year-old singer/songwriter was enjoying a Top Five Billboard R&B/hip-hop hit single, "Separated."

Keyshia Cole:
Keyshia Cole is the real deal. Like many young people raised in a tough neighborhood, the 21-year-old songstress endured a tumultuous childhood in Oakland, California, and has fought all her life to keep her dream of a music career alive. Now she's realizing that dream on her own terms with her first album for the A&M label, The Way It Is. It's been a long road for Keyshia, but it's her powerful voice-- a bell-like instrument whose soaring clarity is topped off with a tantalizing touch of soulful grit -- that's carried her through, not to mention the diminutive singer's personal combination of sugar, spice, sass and sex appeal, along with a solid-steel spine.

S.O.S. Band:
The SOS Band's story began in 1977 in their native city of Atlanta, where they performed regularly in a club known as "The Regal Room". Original group members included Willie "Sonny" Killebrew (saxophone), Billy Ellis (flute), Jason "T.C." Bryant (keyboards), Bruno Speight (guitar), John Simpson (bass),and James Earl Jones III (drums), surrounding the stunning voice of Mary Davis (lead vocals, keyboards).

Atlantic Starr:
Atlantic Starr was among the top urban contemporary acts of the '80s and fared well in the adult contemporary market as well, but their roots were '70s soul and funk. The East Coast outfit was formed in White Plains, NY, in 1976 by three brothers: lead singer/guitarist David Lewis, lead singer/keyboardist Wayne Lewis, and trombonist/percussionist Jonathan Lewis. After the Lewis Brothers hired lead singer Sharon Bryant, trumpeter William Sudderth, saxophonist Damon Rentie (who was replaced by Koran Daniels in 1981), bassist Clifford Archer, drummer Porter Carroll, Jr., and percussionist/flutist Joseph Phillips, Atlantic Starr's original nine-person lineup was in place.

Art on the Rocks: Courtney Jaye

Courtney Jaye listened to the Beatles from her high chair, went to see Springsteen’s Born in the USA tour at age six, and covered Bob Dylan and Neil Young as a teenager. She followed the Grateful Dead across the USA, picked up bluegrass in Flagstaff, AZ, found her love of “tiki” music in Hawaii, and bounced between America’s most notorious music cities (Athens, L.A., Austin, and Nashville), all in search of honing her musical skills and finding a sound of her own. The result, Queen of Sabotage, is a completely unique fusion of country, jazz, and western swing with an exotic mix of Tropicalia sounds. Listen for her sweet voice and ingratiating melodies to fill the playlist.

Art on the Rocks: Tim Brantley

Birmingham Museum of Art
(Jul 17th | 05:00p-10:00p)
Enter Site Here...

Tim Brantley grew up in Georgia playing the piano and (later) guitar and taking in the lyrics of David Gray, Elton John, Hall & Oates, Wilco, Fleetwood Mac, and Dolly Parton (and Carole King if his mom was around). He didn't take music seriously until his early 20's when he started playing in coffee shops & bars every chance he could. His popularity grew in Atlanta, and after winning the city's Battle of the Bands competition, he signed with Blackledge Records (Ben Folds Five, Fuel). He's now on tour promoting his first album, Goldtop Heights. The songs have a modern feel while still harkening back to the 70's music that is "embedded in his musical DNA."
